As we move into the winter season, you’re pushing aside short-sleeved shirts and taking out sweaters and jackets you haven’t touched since last April.
Today, we’ll review a step-by-step process you can use to get your closet organized so you can best store your summer wardrobe and find your winter clothes quickly when you need them.
You know what clothes you reached for most this summer and which items you never wore. If you wait to get organized in the summer, you’re more likely to keep clothes you won’t wear for another season.
Before packing them up for the winter, decide what you want to keep. Anything else can be sold or donated. While selling takes more prep work, you can reinvest what you make into new pieces you love! What you don’t sell can be donated to a local secondhand store.
Move your pants, long sleeve shirts, and other winter pieces front and center in your closet so you can streamline your morning routine without having to dig in the back of your closet.
You can hang some of your summer clothes back in your closet behind your winter wardrobe if you have the space. If not, consider relocating them to a storage closet or under-bed storage area. Remember, you should avoid storing clothing in the attic and the garage because they’re more prone to moisture.
Outerwear, scarves, gloves, and hats can quickly make your closet seem like it’s overflowing with bulky accessories, and you’ll always have to run back to your bedroom before you head out the door.
Instead, create a dedicated space in your entryway to hang these items by adding mudroom storage so you’ll have an accessible place to store them without creating clutter.
Closet kits from big box stores can help you get organized quickly, but they don’t always help you keep it that way because many of the features included weren’t made with your needs in mind.
When you hire a professional to custom-build closet organizational solutions, you’ll have a functional and beautiful closet that elevates your current organization system.
